Quite possibly.
You are always better off with a cable connection moving large amounts of data.
The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749
The second best way is use the Migration Assistant.

Finally migrated using Time Machine Backup of older mac. Two macs never would communicate. Apple used to be so intuitive. I've been using exclusively mac for over 25 years. I was always able to migrate one laptop to the next with no issues...old and new both had ports that allowed them to connect. Thunderbolt is great, but the non-apple, non-leading edge world still uses other types of connections.
you can submit your Apple Feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback
The setup assistant is what I was using but...already cancelled that, so starting over with Migration Assistant. Do not have a cable that will connect the two.
Still seems to take forever: old mac says "Looking for documents and applications to transfer" and new mac says "Starting up".

The old mac is only 128Gb
