I have 2 iPhones, one for myself and one for my husband. I just upgraded my iPhone to a se 2020 and gave my husband my iPhone 6s. I was getting his calls and text messages. Do I need to set up a separate account for his phone?

In a word, yes.

You need to do this on the phone you're giving him: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Then he needs to create an ID for himself and set it up using that ID, not yours.
