Manual labor is exercise
I just spent two hours shoveling 3 cubic yards of dirt off a trailer and cannot figure out why my watch has only registered 11 minutes of exercise.

It has to sense that your heart rate is a lot higher than normal to count something as exercise. It isn’t always completely accurate all the time.
That is the whole problem. I have elevated heart rate but I am not moving. The watch should be able to pick up the movement of my arms even though it cannot tell how much weight I am shoveling or lifting. I know I am in decent shape but I feel a bit cheated if you look at my exercise minutes even though I have had plenty of exercise in my day.
You can make a suggestion to Apple here;
That is what I am doing but I know I am burning more calories than a brisk walk. I would like to see my Apple products have an algorithm that can relate my resting heart rate along with the elevated heart rate to figure out how much exercise I am getting. It can even record the movement of my hands working in a throwing, lifting, or shoveling motion to get a better reading of when I am actually exercising.
This may seem petty but I sit at a desk nine hours a day and own a gentleman’s farm. I know I am getting a lot more exercise than is evident on my Apple Watch just based on my calorie intake and my weight. I am not sure what my watch thinks I am doing when my heart rate is high and I am not running. Almost think it should ask me “what are you doing?” I guess I just get over it and get back to work instead of offering a problem looking for a solution.
