Why is every CD I download scratchy, like I have a cracked speaker, which I don't because the downloads I copied from a CD disc sounds pure?

Are you importing (ripping) from the physical CD, or downloading from an online store?
I "ripped" my personal CDs and downloaded from the online store, which didn't turn out good at all. I have bought/downloaded a lot of CDs and they seem to all come across scratchy.
I am not happy with my iTunes. Every CD that I download, the sound is scratchy compared to my "hard copies." which are clear.
