The Apple Watch ECG function has been reported to produce a trace comparable to a single lead ECG. The hospital grade diagnostic machines are usually 12 lead devices providing much more detail. In other words, if you get an abnormal trace from your Apple Watch it means you should be consulting your doctor without delay, but a "normal" trace only means the single line can't find a problem in the limited areas it can see.
