HDMI to lightning adapter

Does anyone know if the apple HDMI to lightning adapter works for Netflix I bought an after market one and when I put a movie on it just shows a black screen!

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 12

Does this behavior occur with any videos or only ones played via Netflix?

If an app doesn't display video or play audio:

The app might not be compatible with your adapter. Check compatibility on the app's info page in the App Store or contact the developer.
