Can't Save or Save As Microsoft Word files/Big Sur

1) Everyone once in a while, I'm unable to save a Word file or save as. There is no response from Word when I press the buttons. In this case the file was new and unnamed.

Suggested solutions aside from work-arounds?

2) Also, I signed out of Office, signed back in and closed the document. Then a restored version popped up, which again I could not save as, and I have no idea where the restored version went. There is nothing under Recents.

No connected to iCloud.

Back up service didn't capture the document; this all happened with an hour.
