premiere project to final cut 7

Can I move a project from Adobe Premiere to Final Cut Pro 7? If so, how?

Thanks,

Eve

In Premiere, you would export an XML of your project.

In FCP-7, you import the XML and re-link (if necessary) your media files.

XML is an extremely terse transfer format, so not everything that you have done in Premiere (like effects or color correction) will transfer into FCP-7. Also there are functions and processes in Premier that do not have a corresponding feature in FCP-7. You'll need to check the conversion carefully.

Thanks for your reply, Meg. Are there any other details you could pass on about the Premiere to FCP 7 conversion? Or a link to a detailed discussion about this? Particular things to watch out for? And especially, is it known that this does in fact work? (I'm inheriting a project and want to get my ducks in a row before having things sent to me by the previous editor.)

Thanks again,

Eve

I don't have any reference materials on this process. You might find something via Google?

It is pretty straight forward - you get the XML file and the original media used by the editor in Premiere, import the XML file into FCP-7 and then help FCP-7 find the media on your system (if necessary).

It will help if you also receive an exported movie file of what the edit looks like in Premier. You can use it to compare the timeline that came in through the XML process and see what needs help.

Obviously, the simpler the edit (example: a cuts only rough cut made from 50 source clips) is going to likely make a cleaner conversion to FCP than a complex finish edit.

You might suggest a trial transfer of a test project to you so you can verify the process before receiving the actual edit.
