MacBook air 2017 USB C connection problem

My MacBook air has just one USB port for charging and connection. I just bought a Dell Mobile Adapter DA300 which has multiple kinds of port because I'm sick of using so many adapters and hubs. But it doesn't work at all, either charging or connection.

Why is this? Should it work?

According to the User Guide for the product it seems like it is only made for use with Dell laptops. There is absolutely no mention of any other brands of computers in the user guide. Plus the USB-C ports on this adapter only support the USB protocol (Thunderbolt is not supported).

You should get a device that is meant to work with Macs. OWC is a well respected vendor supplying accessories & peripherals for Macs for over 20 years.

Edit: Also, you must have the 2018+ model since the 2017 MBAir has no USB-C ports. Please make sure to note the correct model when posting as it can make a huge difference. You can get the exact model of the Mac by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".

That is the problem with Apple products many times. Apple cares first & foremost about "fashion", "cool", flashy, artsy things and functionality is many times an after thought. However, the user should also thoroughly consider how they will use the laptop to make sure the laptop will meet their current and future needs. If one model doesn't fully meet a user's needs, then the user should check out the other models. Maybe an Apple product is not really in the best interest of some users for certain use cases. Unfortunately Apple does not really value their loyal customers as seen by some of the worst laptop designs in years and not addressing the customer complaints about laptop the poor designs more quickly. Like every other vendor these days Apple thinks BandAids will fix everything.
