email not an option to share in Photo's or Finder

When I use the "Share" button in Photo's or Finder, email does not come up as an option. I am using gmail. When I go to "more", and try to enable mail as a share option it shows as checked but is greyed out. Sharing works great on my iPad and iPhone. Can someone help? Thanks.

Have you tried to make Apple Mail your default Mail reader?

  • Launch Mail, then open the Preferences > General and set the pop up menu "Default email reader" to "Mail.app".

With this Setting I can share photos by Mail, directly from Photos, as long as I have not too many photos selected as once. Sharing by Mail will no longer be available, when I select hundred photos or more at once.
