Issues with ultra-wide LG 38" external monitors and MBP 16" (2019)

I recently purchased an LG 38WK95C monitor and I am pulling my hair out trying to get a reasonable display resolution.

The monitor's native resolution is 3840 x 1600 @ 75Hz, although when I connect through USB-C, the "default resolution" comes up as 1920x800 @ 60Hz. It looks nice but everything is huge!

When I scale it to 3840x1600 (@ 60Hz) the fonts become very blurry. I have also tried other resolutions (clicking option and then scaled), but I can't find a nice balance between size and font clarity.

Under Mac/About/Graphics Displays you can see it thinks it's connecting to a Television. From what I have read on the topic, I think this might be the primary issue although forcing it to RGB mode as some of the posts suggest using either SwitchResX or RDP doesn't fix the issue. I have also tinkered around with the font smoothing through the terminal. I have done all sorts of resets, VRAM, etc.

I have spent numerous hours on the phone with "senior advisors" at Apple but no luck. LG has been all but useless. I have no issues connecting this monitor to my windows desktop, so I am pretty sure it's not the monitor. Also, I have tried on other MacBooks and the same issue arises, so unlikely it's my MBP. I have tried using HDMI, DP, swapping cables, etc. I have read many articles on similar situations, with both LG, Dell and others. It seems like these issues are more common with ultra-wide monitors (34+) than those with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is there actually a solution or is it just a function of the aspect ratio, resolution, and size? I am still in the return period windows for the monitor.

2. If the answer to 1 is no, is there a particular configuration I should be focusing on? I really want a 21:9 aspect ratio and a size between 34 and 38. I could go to 43" but those are all 16:9. I would love a 49" but I don't really have the desk space to accommodate that.

any advice?

That link contains an interesting solution.

The main difference between DisplayPort 1.4 and 1.2 is that 1.4 supports data compression, which requires a LOT more compute-power in the display to de-compress.

This display may expect you to connect with TWO cables, so it tells the computer, "here is my capabilities (for HALF the screen real-estate)".

If you drop back to DisplayPort 1.2, it may change what it tells the Mac it can achieve for maximum resolutions.

Thank you, an interesting solution. When I spoke to Apple support they said some users had different options to switch between DP 1.2 and 1.4 and had success. My monitor had options to disable DP 1.2 but no talk of 1.4. I then asked LG if I needed a firmware update to see these options and was told that only applies to 34" monitors. So either LG or Apple is telling me the incorrect information.
