Connecting a Dell Laptop to a mac laptop

Is it possible to connect the Dell laptop to the Mac laptop in order to use both screens while working? I've been using a Dell for 5 years, and my father-in-law just gave me a Mac. I do online schooling, and I've been using both computers at the same time to do the work, but I'm curious if there is a way to connect both computers to use the same mouse. Thank you in advance.

Trying to use a notebook computer as if it were a display is nothing but an exercise in self-abuse.

I suggest you use a TV set or get a 'real' display instead.
