Transferring data

Hello all. I just upgraded from an 8 to an iPhone 13 mini. I did not transfer sim cards beforehand (didn’t say to on the directions Verizon gave me) now I have my old phone and new phone and neither will let me makes calls - what do I do? Do I reset the network on the new phone? I have to send back my old phone cause it’s a trade in . Thank you
