iCloud photos has been disabled, why?

Received an email that says my iCloud Photos has been disabled and I have 27 days to download the photos. I never disabled Photos on any of my devices. How can this be fixed?

Hello Thatsgr8t.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you received an email message notifying you that your iCloud Photos have been disabled. We will be glad to assist.

First, let's check your iCloud storage here:

"Check your iCloud storage on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
  2. The bar graph shows your overall storage usage.
  3. Tap Manage Storage for more details."

Check your iCloud storage online or on any device

If you need more iCloud storage you can upgrade: Upgrade to iCloud+

If you don't want to upgrade, see the following to manage your iCloud storage:Manage your iCloud storage

If your iCloud storage is fine, we would next verify that the email message you received is legitimate: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Hi Thatsgr8t.

Thanks for following up with the screenshot.

If you're seeing it when you log into iCloud, that confirms this is not phishing. It's legit. The alert you're seeing will occur, and is expected, when the Apple ID iCloud account user selects the "Disable & Delete" option found under Photos when managing iCloud storage. This option is discussed further under 'How do I remove all iCloud Photos content from iCloud and my devices' in this article: Get help with iCloud Photos.

If you did not mean to select that option, or don't recall selecting it, you'll want to navigate back to Photos under iCloud settings to undo the action. Below we've provided you the path on how to undo the option on both iOS and macOS.

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Photos, then tap 'Undo Delete'.
  • On your Mac, open Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud (or Apple ID > iCloud), then choose Manage > Photos, and select 'Undo Delete'.

If you do not see the option to Undo Delete, we would recommend contacting Apple Support Contact Apple for support and service, for continued investigation.

Take care.
