Iphone X unresponsive screen

My kid has an iPhone X, and the screen is unresponsive. There is no damage to the phone or anything, it just stopped responding. I've tried to do the reset as explained if the site but still nothing. I read that Apple used to fix this for free but bo longer does. Is there anything else I can do? I just purchased the phone in 2020 and do not want to spend hundreds of dollars to fix something that is defective and do not want so spend 1000 on a new phone.
