10.6 Audio scrubbing using arrow keys now tied to skimming?

Updated to FCPX 10.6 & frame by frame audio playback with the arrow keys no longer plays when audio skimming is disabled.

I use the arrow keys to accurately position the playhead to sync audio & video. Before 10.6 it would play the audio of that frame when the arrow keys were pressed. It now only plays the audio if skimming is switched on. I absolutely HATE audio skimming - it makes me nausious!

Am I missing something or has Apple just messed up my workflow? Looking for someone to tell me I'm an idiot & it's simply a keypress to reactivate this feature.

Many Thanks

I submitted feedback on this change. Would highly recommend everyone else do the same. I think giving the user the option to either go back to the original way, or have two independent skimming toggles (one for curser, one for arrow keys) would benefit us all.

Like many of you, I use audio skimming with arrow keys for every single video I edit, it's perfect for quickly finding the beat or accent in a song, to place a cut or keyframe too.

I get that - however for me, it means pressing shift-s probably a thousand times a day, which invariably slows down my workflow drastically.

Instead of just playing the music, hitting space to stop the playhead, then pressing an arrow key to get an accurate cut, I now have to hit space, press the shift-s key combination, use the arrow key to accurately position the cut, then press the press the shift-s key combination again. Seems like an unnecessary slowdown to me.

They could have always given us the option??

Sure, I am in favor of allowing the user to select a preference.

As Tom said, you should use feedback.

Hmmm. Just tried it. Maybe Shift-S would be easier then the Mute toggle (F10) after all.

I understand. Why would you want audio skimming? I suppose it might help you find a certain point in the music at times. But yes, normally you would want it off, esp. when doing the frame-by-frame bit, which I myself ha e done (the key is sometimes not working!) to sync up important sync points.

I think Apple messed up the OP's process. And possibly mine, too, if I e er need to do this type of thing again after upgrading. :(

Same here with me... It's killing me honestly ! That was a BIG part of my workflow.... It's the third major update that i'm experiencing some problems or changes that makes no sense... If there were people complaining for this, at least they could've make it optional... It's going to be sooo much more difficult for me. I hope there is a miracle and from fcpx give this option back somehow.
