Speaker doesn’t work on calls

When I receive or make a phone call, the sound cuts out and sometimes no sound will be heard even when the other person is talking. It sounds similar to what is happening with the speaker in the IPhone 12 And IPhone 12 Pro. I’ve tried shutting down the phone and restarting with no luck. It does the same thing whether I am on speakerphone or not. Any ideas what it can be and what might fix it?

Hey Avanmarie13,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you're having audio issues while on phone calls. We'd like to help.

Based on your description, it sounds like you cannot hear the other person, even if you try using speakerphone mode. Have you tried each step in this article yet, to help isolate the issue further? If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

-Does this happen on FaceTime calls, or just regular phone calls?

-Can you hear everyone OK when using a Bluetooth device, if available?

-Which iOS version are you using under Settings > General > About?

-How long has this been going on?

Keep us posted. Regards.
