Separating Settings on Two Devices

We have two iPhones in our home, one for each occupant. We share calendars and contacts by using one .mac account. In the past, we have had to disable iMessage or else we'd get all the messages one another was sending/receiving. With the new iOS 15 update, we are having a similar issue with the "Do Not Disturb" setting. If one person sets it, both devices share the same setting. We want to be able to individually set "Do Not Disturb." Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Sharing an Apple ID stopped becoming useful and because a pain in the butt when iCloud was expanded about 5 years ago. Apple strongly recommends not sharing an Apple ID, but instead sharing content other ways. But if you don’t take Apple’s advice you will continue having assorted problems. Apple IDs are personal; they shouldn’t be shared any more than you would share a toothbrush. If you share an Apple ID with someone else many bad things will happen. Each user should have their own Apple ID, then you can create Family Sharing→What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support. That way you can share what you want to share and not share what you don’t want to share.

It is OK to share an Apple ID among devices used by one person, such as an iPhone, an iPad and a Mac; in fact, it is a very useful thing to do. But not between devices used by different people.
