Storage

I bought an iPad recently and decided to get the 64gb storage as apposed to the much larger 200+ option. On this iPad I’ll be doing lots of video and photo editing. Since I have all my photos and videos on the iCloud, am I able to use everything in my iCloud on my iPad, even thought my iCloud has much more storage than my iPad? Also, is it possible to transfer photos and videos from my laptop (non apple product) to my iPad? If not, is iPad to iCloud possible?

Thanks in advance.

If you're going to be doing that much editing of photo and video, you should have opted for much more storage. 64 GB isn't going to last long. Your iCloud photos will sync with your device, and if you have a substantial amount in the cloud, you may fill your iPad. Whilst you can optimize storage on the iPad, you probably want the full resolution item to work with.

You can transfer photos and video to your laptop through finder. or through iCloud.

I tend to agree with muguy.

While you can, certainly store data on your iPad into iCloud, and/or ANY “cloud”, online offsite data storage /backup services, like Google Drive/Docs/Photos, BOX, DropBox, Amazon cloud data storage services, or other similar data storage/backup services, you short changed yourself on internal data storage space on that 64 GBs iPad model.

Yes, you should be able to transfer these files to your Windows PC, also, but still, working with a 64 GBs device for what you are expecting to do with this iPad, I think will be a limitation.

You will need to keep re-import video/image data back into your iPad to be able to work on video and photo/image files.

64 GBs of internal data storage may, MAY be just enough space to do what you want to do, but, maybe not.

A 64 GBs storage iPad starts out with approx. 60 GBs.,after initial internal flash drive formatting.

Minus approx. 6.5 GBs for iOS/iPadOS leaves between 53-54 GBs.

Minus 3-6 GBs, for iOS/iPadOS system operational reserve, that MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES, to ensure/insure normal, expected operation of iOS/iPad OS, leaves approx. between 48-50 GBs of actual, usable data storage space.

64 GBs of internal data storage ( approx. 50 GBs of actual, usable internal data storage ), is the ”new minimum base internal data storage space ” for Apple iOS/iPadOS devices, which, for more moderate iPad usage and needs, would, normally, give a few more years of enough free, internal storage internal data to make an iPad useful for longer period of time before data storage fills up in these 64 GBs iPad models.

A 64 GBs internal data storage model does NOT leave much for device longevity future proofing.

I am not convinced that this will be enough free, internal data storage space for your needs and activities.

If you purchased this device from Apple, you have a 14-day unconditional refund to return this 64 GBs device for a much larger 256 GBs model.

A 256 GBs storage iPad starts out with approx. 238.5GBs.,after initial internal flash drive formatting.

Minus approx. 6.5 GBs for iOS/iPadOS leaves 231.0 GBs.

Minus 3-6 GBs, for iOS/iPadOS system operational reserve, that MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES, to ensure/insure normal, expected operation of iOS/iPad OS, leaves approx. between 224-228 GBs of actual, usable data storage space.

This extra space will help with your video and image editing activities, while better future proofing this iPad.

Also, if you have done so yet, with any new iPad, budget for paid, extended, two-year AppleCare+ which covers ANY accidental/incidental user damages. You can pay for this coverage at purchase time or within 60 days of purchase.

The free, limited, one year AppleCare ( NO + sign ) does NOT cover ANY user damages.

Best of Luck to You!
