Notifications on text messages

I have an IPhone 12. I receive a notification sound on most text messages but not on all. Any thoughts about what I need to do or change so I receive notification on all ?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 12

Are the notifications related to certain contacts or are the sounds random? Do you use an Apple Watch?
