macOS not updating

Just installed an ssd in my late 2012 Mac mini, downloaded OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks) from recovery and when I try to update it says that there is no updates available. I tried downloading Catalina from the App Store but it says "PURCHASE OF THIS ITEM IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE this item is being modified. Please try again later" and "WE COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later." I would like to avoid putting my old drive back in, creating a time machine backup, switching drives again and booting the time machine save from recovery as much as possible.

Tried couple more times later and it worked.

Edit: went directly to Catalina, I guess he just wasn't sure if he wanted to grow up that fast ;)
