Hi guys,
I just installed a new crucial ssd to mac book pro mid 2012. Install from scratch.
it only allows me to reinstall mountain lion (very old software).
If I do this I can’t update as it gives an error 102. Catalina won’t update as OS X needed updated.
its been erased, partitioned to 1, and formatted to Apple journal.

help would be great to get up and running again.

Hi, safari won’t allow me to open most web pages. So I can’t get the link provided to download. Can’t log into Apple discussions on mac in its current mountain lion state.
airdrop wont work on mac.
any suggestions?

Thank you very much indeed for your knowledge and the links. I manually typed the web link into the browser, it worked and all went smoothly after that.
I’ve now got everything updated, set up and working again.

I’ll try this now cheers and get back. I just assumed that it would automatically pick up on it and offer a suitable alternative.

Hmm. always recommended to have an alternative browser.
You can use the Terminal.app to download, copy and paste:
curl -o Desktop/InstallMacOSX.dmg -R http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/061-41424-20191024-218af9ec-cf50-4516-9011-228c78eda3d2/InstallMacOSX.dmg
