Disable Edit options in Messages app

When I'm in the Messages app and I hit Edit, a menu appears asking if I want to select messages, edit pins, or edit name and photo. I ONLY want to select messages. Ever. I don't ever want the option to pin texts, and if I wanted to edit name and photo, I'd do it in Contacts.

Is there any way to disable these features so that the Edit option just immediately opens the ability to select messages? In other words, can I turn this two-step process back to the one-step process it used to be on older operating systems?

You are referring to the sub-menu when you choose EDIT on the first screen of the Messages app. The answer to your question is a NO. The three options that are shown when you choose EDIT cannot be altered.
