why doesnt it show in messages to other people when my focus is on?

There are a number of settings that you need to have on for that to happen. Go to Settings>Focus>select the particular Focus you wish to configure, then under Options, Focus Status you need to turn that on. You can also turn it off in individual messages if you configure that as well.
