iPad e-mail set-up; POP vs. IMAP

My iPad email was originally set-up using a POP account default from our internet provider, but I want to change this to IMAP to allow me to sync with more devices. I deleted the provider account on the Mail/Accounts screen, restarted the iPad, then went to install the provider account info with their IMAP settings (port number, domain/server name, etc.). My problem is that the "Add Account" set-up automatically finds my old POP account information and won't let me manually add the new/IMAP information. It sees my email address and insists on setting me up with POP as it was before! Somehow I fluked into a choice between POP and IMAP when updating the provider account information on my iPhone (and it works like a charm!), but cannot find such a IMAP/POP choice setting on the iPad. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

From the Add Mail Account dialogue, enter the email address - but intentionally enter an incorrect password. Attempt to add the account and, as expected, addition of the account will fail with an error. Click through the error dialogue

You should now see a New Account dialogue box with an IMAP and POP tab. Select the tab for IMAP - and now update the account details with the correct account password. Now tap save - and continue with account setup.
