Metal key sent with Iphone 13? Removing SIM before trading in

I just got my Apple 13 Pro Max. I transferred all over to it from my iPhone X. What is the little metal device that came with the IPhone 13 for? I think it is to remove the SIM card on my iPhone X. Do I need to remove this SIM card before sending back?
