SD Card Reader / Files App

Why doesn't my Apple SD card reader appear as a device in the Apple Files app? It used to appear before I upgraded to IOS 15.

Hello dantosie!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're not seeing your SD card reader in the Files app on your iPhone, which is running iOS 15.

Based on the information provided Unser the "Import photos and videos" section of the article below, the import is done through the Photos app: Import photos using Apple camera adapters

If you have an iPad with iPadOS, you can then access the files on the SD card through the Files app. You can read more about this in the "Do more with Files on iPadOS" section from this article: Use the Files app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

Hi dantosie,

We appreciate you verifying that information.

With the SD card reader not appearing in the Locations, try these troubleshooting steps:

1 - Quit the Files app on your iPad with these steps: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

2 - Disconnect the SD card reader.

3 - Restart your iPad

4 - Reconnect the SD card reader, and check to see if there is any change in the Files app, or if it launches Photos.

4 - If the issue persists, go to Settings > General > Software Update and see if there are any available. If you find you need to install an update, first backup your iPad with these steps: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

5 - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch & test again.

Let us know the results.

All the best.
