I previously used the voice search feature on Google Maps when connected to Apple Car Play in my 2017 Mazda 3. In the last couple of months, it doesn’t seem to recognize the microphone input anymore. I’m not sure if it’s tied to a recent iOS upgrade, or a setting that somehow changed. If I unplug my iPhone from the usb and use the internal microphone, it works.

2015 Mazda 3 after market carplay supply and installed at Mazda dealer. iPhone XR, iOS 15. Same issue like you described and tried your method too.
Finally I got it worked by changing languages. My original setting was Chinese google maps but voice search in English. Which was working ok before updating to iOS 15.
Now after watching both google maps and voice search to “English”. It works.
So maybe people have the same issue might try.

Do you speak several languages? I set my google maps and voice control back to the same language (English) then it works again.
old setting was in different language. Google maps in Chinese but voice control in English. Worked before but not after updating to iOS 15.
Now it does after I changed the 2 settings (google maps language & voice control language) to same language “English”.
I had this issue too. I uninstalled Google Maps, rebooted my phone (iPhone 12 running iOS 15.1.1) the reinstalled the Google Maps app (version 5.85.2) and, so far, voice search appears to be working ok with CarPlay.

Same problem started with my 2020 Honda Accord once I upgraded my iPhone 11 from 14.8 to 15.2. Using voice commands with Google maps no longer silences the radio and lowers volume, and google maps tells me it cannot hear me.
Hello. I also have this issue. I rebooted my phone. Factory reset my car. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Maps app. Restarted my phone. None worked. The voice search still says it can’t hear me. I’ve used it successfully in the past. I think when I updated my phone is when it started to give me problems.

Thanks. I’ve tried everything; and nothing works. I just updated my phone to iOS 15.2. We’ll see if that helps. Not sure if it’s my phone or my car…
