Final Cut Sound Issue

I upgraded to the newest version of Finale cut, but now I'm having an issue with the soundwaves of the audio. They don't show up anymore on my clips. I'm not sure how to get them back or why it's doing this. Everything has been rendered and updated and it's still not showing the audio soundwaves. Hoping someone might be able to help me figure this out.

So looks like when I open a new project and library and then upload the clips the soundwaves show up. For some reason, the old Project and library doesn't want to show the soundwaves. Not sure why it's doing this. The videos and audio files are mp4. I don't think I have ever tied optimizing the media, because I don't think it ever really did much for me in the past. I tried deleting the cache and that didn't work. It's also one of those things that when I go to close the application it says it's doing things in the background, but not sure what that is. Then I have to force quit the program. I'm afraid to try this with other projects I have because I don't want it to be an issue.

Where can I put this? I tried to open a whole new library and project to kind of start from scratch to see if I can make this work. The program isn't really letting me do anything when it comes to sound. trying to match audio and the clips keep cutting out and I am still having issues seeing the soundwaves. This all happened right after I updated my Final Cut. I used it a day before I upgraded and now it's giving me all kinds of issues.

Also, if the issue persists after doing as Tom advised, you may want to delete the application preferences.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an “Untitled” library.

Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.
