Sign Out of iCloud on it.
If this Apple Account has been closed, then you are out of luck. Your device is useless to you.

I may have comprehended this incorrectly: Taking it as if their Apple Account has been completely deactivated by Apple —with it now being too late to log out of their Apple Account on it.
I need to get this done urgently before it’s too late please I’m pleading to customer service to help me with this on time
This isn't the same as the activation lock. If they sign out, they'll need to sign back in to use the App Store, and it won't leave the iPhone as useless in any case.
