Migration Assistant

I want to confirm that using Migration Assistant to transfer files from an old MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air will leave the original files on the MacBook Pro intact (ie., not delete them as part of the transfer process.) Thank you.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

Hello John Kevin,

We understand that you have some questions related to Migration Assistant. You are correct that the files remain in place on the old Mac until you elect to erase the machine. Per Move your content to a new Mac, it copies the content.

This is similar to the article you found, Restore your Mac from a backup, where the same files are copied from a backup as opposed to from the source.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities!

Just be careful moving Old Software to New Apple Silicon M1 computer. Applications, extensions and such I=on Old Intel Computer to Apple Silicon computer M1 CPU do not automatically translate to working on the new computer running Big Sur / Monterey.

Plus, Old Application if 32 Bit will NOT Work in Big Sur and there is not workaround for That. Big Sur and soon the be released Monterey only Support everything 64 Bit.

Would suggest only migrating the User Account and nothing else.
