Red around loading bar on startup

When I restarted my MacBook Pro, it took a minute to load and then made me log in.

Once I logged in, it took my back to then screen with an Apple on it and the loading bar turned red and said it would take 12 minutes. What’s going on?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

Sounds like it is doing a disk repair/disk First Aid as part of the boot up..

Were you having issues prior?

Did this issue resolve itself... I would wait. If no resolve you can try a SAFEBOOT  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

If still no resolve

You can Boot into Internet Recovery (Option Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina/Big Sur) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Disk Utility>View>Show All Devices The best sequence is —

• Volume level

• Container level

• Parent drive

Recovery (both M1 and Intel) — https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

Regarding just the red outline....I have seen similar red outlines around the Apple logo on some of our organization's laptops from time to time. The red outline itself can most likely be ignored.

The long load time indicated either means the OS is running a file system check like @leroydouglas mentions or you are installing a macOS update. The former would be of concern.

Make sure to always have frequent & regular backups.
