Unable to duplicate Live Photos as Still Photos (solved)
Hello everyone,
I recently tried to free up space on my iPhone X by duplicating my Live Photos as Still. However, I noticed that my iPhone sometimes showed two options, "Duplicate" and "Duplicate as Still Photo," and sometimes did not (i.e., it duplicated the Live Photos without any prompt).
After several tests, I found that this weird behavior resulted from the types of Live Photos. If one or more photos in the Live Photos you have chosen have types other than "Live" (e.g., "Loop," "Bounce," or "Long Exposure"), then iPhone will duplicate the photos without asking, and the copies of the photos will still remain the same.
Solution 1: Duplicate all Live Photos as Still Photos (including Loop, Bounce, and Long Exposure)
- Go to "Albums -> Media Types -> Long Exposure/Animated".
- Change the types of all photos into "Live" one by one.
- Go to "Albums -> Media Types -> Live Photos".
- Click "Select -> Select All -> Share -> Duplicate -> Duplicate as Still Photo".
- Delete all Live Photos.
- Go to "Recently Deleted" and delete them permanently.
Solution 2: Duplicate Live Photos as Still Photos (excluding Loop, Bounce, and Long Exposure)
- Go to "Albums -> Media Types -> Long Exposure/Animated".
- Click "Select -> Select All -> Share -> Save to Files" and select a directory to store them.
- Delete all Long Exposure and Animated photos.
- Go to "Albums -> Media Types -> Live Photos".
- Click "Select -> Select All -> Share -> Duplicate -> Duplicate as Still Photo".
- Delete all Live Photos.
- Go to "Albums -> Recently Deleted" and delete them permanently.
- Go to the "Files" app and find the photos you have saved.
- Select them and click "Share -> Save Image or Save Video" to recover them.
