How to Link CarPlay to new iPhone 12. Got a new iPhone 12. Seeking advice linking it to CarPlay in a Prius 2014

Per this article, that is not CarPlay. Perhaps it’s some form of Bluetooth connection, watered down from fully functioning CarPlay.

We've had CarPlay in our 2014 Prius since we bought it (new), and we' ve used it for years so obviously it's been supported since before the 2020 Prius models. My understanding is that CarPlay is just kind of "dumb" and just does whatever the iPhone directs it to do. I'll just buy and use a lightning/USB cable to connect CarPlay and the iPhone 12. If that works I'll report the result here.

Only 2020 or newer Toyota Prius supports CarPlay.

Not interested in arguing about this (altho' Wikepedia says it was released in March 2014). We'll just keep trying to get it to work as it used to do.
