One AirPod drops charge sooner than the other

I've tried a reset and other troubleshooting hints several times without success. AirPods are three years old, so it could just be a battery dying.

My left AirPod drops a charge after about 15 minutes. The other keeps going. Putting the left one in the charger for a few minutes gives me a few more minutes. When I put it in the charger the charge light glows green, not orange as if it needs a charge. Any suggestions?
