trying to get Word and Excel on new Mac

I have updated my old 2008 Mac Air to a new 2021 version, and my Microsoft applications no longer work. Can I download or purchase a new app that will give me access to Word and Excel?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.12

You can purchase the full version of Office from Microsoft, or you can download the apps from the Mac App Store and subscribe to Microsoft 365.

It's that or find an alternative office suite. Libre Office is free.
