Spatial audio not available on MacBook Air m1?

Spatial audio not available on MacBook Air m1? Running the latest OS Monterey. My settings show selected in both Music app and System Prefs. My AirPods Pro work fine on my iPhone with both Atoms and spatial audio.

I had this problem, then it suddenly started working for a few days only to go off again. It took me a while to figure it out. It was Shazam. If it's on then Spatial audio will not work. Simply quit Shazam and it works.

Okay, I was at the Genius Bar running diagnostics and testing with other laptops and AirPod 3s, and it is across the board. They believe this is a bug because it states in a number of places that spatial audio should work and it should work with m1 hardware. We tested with AirPod pro, AirPod max and their AirPod 3s as well and it does not work for any of those devices.the hardware was all confirmed to work as well. It’s weird more people aren’t complaining about this. It’s clearly not working as expected.

I have a new 2021 MacBook Pro and my spatial audio is greyed out as well. HOWEVER, when I enable Atmos in the Apple Music preferences I hear it change to spatial audio even though it still shows greyed out. It sounds just as bad as the spatial audio from my iPad. Can you tell I am not a fan? Loss of volume and echoey. So I don't know what is happening but seems like a bug that is remains greyed out.

I'm not sure it's a bug or something, but it seems like Spatial Audio in Apple Music on Mac doesn't works when streaming the music. And now I've found some solutions to use Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos tracks in Apple Music on Mac.

All you need to do are add your interested album to your music library and download them, then you need to play that album from the library (not from Apple Music) and tada! Spatial Audio is now working.

They replied to me on Twitter saying it's "expected behavior"; that spatial audio is exclusively available on the new MacBooks Pro. They've sent a support page link that was updated to say it's only available in the new Pros...

What strikes as odd is that this was available on the MBA M1 before and it is still available on old phones like the iPhone 7, but apparently the M1 chip is not good enough for it... It's just Apple being Apple and killing functions in order to sell new and more expensive products.

Apple support is known for being a bit clumsy and not very helpful when things get out of hand... Here's the link for the tweet where they told that it is exclusive to the new MacBook Pro "presented in 2021". https://twitter.com/AppleSupport/status/1463892503145426947?s=20 Hope this solves your curiosity about the reply and let's hope they're wrong and an update come up fixing all this =)

Hello there Madashelluphere,

I see you're looking for information regarding using spatial audio with your Mac, so take a look at the following information to see if this helps.

With spatial audio on a Mac, this ties in with Dolby Atmos on Apple Music. You would be able to continue to use your AirPods Pro; however, not all songs are available with Dolby Atmos. For more information on this, take a look at the section labeled "Choose how to listen to Dolby Atmos on your Mac" of the following resource:

About spatial audio with Dolby Atmos in Apple Music

We hope this is able to help.

Have a great day!
