Spatial audio not available on MacBook Air m1?

Okay, I was at the Genius Bar running diagnostics and testing with other laptops and AirPod 3s, and it is across the board. They believe this is a bug because it states in a number of places that spatial audio should work and it should work with m1 hardware. We tested with AirPod pro, AirPod max and their AirPod 3s as well and it does not work for any of those devices.the hardware was all confirmed to work as well. It’s weird more people aren’t complaining about this. It’s clearly not working as expected.

guys, use the official app instead of third-party app for eg: I had the same problem I wasn't able to use spatialized audio playing videos on chrome however when I switched to safari it started to work, I believe the same method applies to other apps like apple music

Funny enough I have found a temporary fix for this. Loading up netflix via safari actually activates the air pods Spatial sound audio. Pause any random vid on Netflix, and you can now enjoy the rest of the spatial experience on any other applications.

I have a new 2021 MacBook Pro and my spatial audio is greyed out as well. HOWEVER, when I enable Atmos in the Apple Music preferences I hear it change to spatial audio even though it still shows greyed out. It sounds just as bad as the spatial audio from my iPad. Can you tell I am not a fan? Loss of volume and echoey. So I don't know what is happening but seems like a bug that is remains greyed out.

Even I had the same problem until today when I authorised the computer.

To do that,

open Apple Music -> Account -> Authorisations -> Authorise this computer

Enter your iCloud password

This was exactly what I have done unknowingly and now Spatial Audio is now supported on my M1 MacBook Air 😁😉

I'm not sure it's a bug or something, but it seems like Spatial Audio in Apple Music on Mac doesn't works when streaming the music. And now I've found some solutions to use Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos tracks in Apple Music on Mac.

All you need to do are add your interested album to your music library and download them, then you need to play that album from the library (not from Apple Music) and tada! Spatial Audio is now working.

They replied to me on Twitter saying it's "expected behavior"; that spatial audio is exclusively available on the new MacBooks Pro. They've sent a support page link that was updated to say it's only available in the new Pros...

What strikes as odd is that this was available on the MBA M1 before and it is still available on old phones like the iPhone 7, but apparently the M1 chip is not good enough for it... It's just Apple being Apple and killing functions in order to sell new and more expensive products.

It seems that downloading the music with spatial audio and then play in in the music app works.

Hey! I "solved" the issue doing this: in Music app settings, enable "Download Dolby Atmos". Now, you need to download the songs to enable the Spatial Audio option. Im not sure if that's how supposed to work..... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi -are you on the latest MacOS? and have you tried saving a "made for spatial audio" song to your library and then downloading from there to your M1 Mac and playing it ? I found that that worked for me- if the sound does not sound great from the Mac , ( which it should) try using an approved SA headset like AirPod Pros...

The MBP and A are supported. This bug transcends from a compatibility issue.

Apple support is known for being a bit clumsy and not very helpful when things get out of hand...
