Camera roll being a separate Albums

Can one move the default location of the camera roll. As a new iPhone user fresh from Samsung this is the most frustrating feature I am having trouble adapting too. From a user point just does not make sense to me to have it set up like that. I am afraid of losing valuable photos, and spending endless amount of time trying to find photos. Maybe there is a work around, maybe a future update...
