Apple TV (3rd gen) doesn't respond

I wanted to give my old Apple TV (3rd gen) to a friend. When I attached it to her television, at first only the screensaver photos were shown. After I had powered off and back on, a white Apple icon was displayed briefly on the television and then two "buttons", Computers and Settings. However, they did not respond at all to the Remote.

My suspicion is that the Apple TV is still defined to recognise my environment, IP address, etc, and therefore doesn't respond in my friend's home. What can I do to access the Apple TV and reset it, so that it works for my friend.

Unplug the Apple TV from power for 2-3 minutes then re-power it up. If you continue to have a problem, then I'd recommend replacing it with an Apple TV 4K. There is a great deal on these from OWC (www.macsales.com), only $119. The direct link is OWC Apple TV 4K. These are brand new and if you are not already an Apple TV + subscriber or have never been you may be eligible to get Apple TV + free for 90 days. If you qualify you will need to redeem the offer.
