My new iPad mini is stuck in restore from iCloud backup. How do I clear it?..

Need help with my new iPad mini. For days it has said that it needs 100 mb to finish iCloud restore but it has over 100 gb. It won’t let me update os until restore is completed. How do I cancel restore?

I have exactly the same problem. Bought a new iPad Pro and selected the option to transfer from the old one. Mine is stuck at 1.4 GB left and refuses to do the update to 15.1 until the restore finishes. There is no error. It simply doesn't budge from the 1.4 GB left. That message appears in Settings in the sidebar just under my name and icon in a box labeled "Restore in Progress." Obviously something in the restore that is done to set up the apps and their data is stuck. A reboot does not fix it and I can not identify which app's data is the one that is stuck.

Good afternoon gary200,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

Congratulations on the purchase of a new iPad mini!

It sounds like you are having an issue restoring your iPad mini, and we'd like to help.

How did you set up this iPad? Did you set it up as a new device, or are you restoring or transferring information from a previous iPad?

Try restarting your iPad to see if it will finish.

If the issue persists, what is the exact error message you are seeing?

How much storage do you have left on the iPad itself?

The resources below will provide some guidance:

Restart your iPad

How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If your iPad won't turn on or is frozen

Please reply to this thread and we'll do our best to help you!

Take care.

I bought ipad pro 11/12/21. Noticed that restore was still needing 1.4GB to finish. Out of 512 I have only used 62 and the ipad this is replacing was only 256. I have talked to support twice now. 1st time we wiped my ipad pro and started over, clicked all apps and made sure they had down loaded. Deleted any that were no longer in the app store. This only resulted in the same process after 2 days of waiting for the restore to finish. 2nd Call two days later we reset the network settings several times. Gathered the logs and sent to Apple. We are waiting for the next apple support people to get back to us.

Same exact issue. My new ipad air (4th generation) just arrived. I get the exact same message, though mine is stuck with 40 required. There is plenty of room on the ipad, and when I check cloud storage it says cloud storage is empty. What's weird is I think everything I need from my old ipad is on the new one.

It's working fine, but from what others have said here it will prevent me from updating when that becomes necessary.

Should I take it into the apple store where I bought it? Could they help me there?
