Can a late 2014 27" iMac be used as a second display for the new Macbook Pros with M1 chips?

I've read Apple's support article about how only certain iMac's can be used as a second display, and they only work with older Mac's from 2019 or earlier (BTW this makes no sense to me why older technology works while the latest technology doesn't).

With the introduction of the latest Macbooks, I'm now wondering (and hoping) that something has changed that will allow this to happen. I'd really like to use my iMac as a second monitor since it's already 5k and I'd never be able to find an affordable option with the same specs.

If it IS now possible, what cable/adaptors would I need? I also have a Wacom 22HDT Cintiq I need to connect, but I don't believe that will be a problem.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer this for me.

iMac 27″, macOS 11.6
