How to turn off voice navigation on Apple Maps

No, what you need to do is go to your apple play and turn off the settings. After you turn off go to your maps and just put in a address and press go. Once it gives you directions on the top right go to the speaker settings and press on the one that has a line through it. End the direction and go back to apple care settings and reapply to active. Plug in and and you are good to go. This will work!

Can you see this image in the support document? Tap the speaker icon in that map view to turn off spoken directions.

You will only see it while you are navigating.

I see no directions for turning off the maps voice in that article.

I don’t see that speaker icon on my apple map app. I had in the past but now it doesn’t appear, even when I disconnect CarPlay. Where else can I find a toggle to turn off voice directions?

You do not see the map as in the image that I posted back in December? Are you using this in a vehicle and using CarPlay? Because once you have turned on Navigation for Maps in CarPlay, then you will not see the route and other information on the phone, just the list of turn by turn directions.

The problem with this solution is that doesn’t only turn off spoken directions, but also mutes my watch buzzing, which helped me a lot in the past (without voice directions). It was basically one of the few reasons to prefer Apple Maps over the Google maps. This changed recently, and now it’s either spoken + buzz on the watch or none. I wish you returned to how it was previously, or add some more settings to change the behavior if necessary.

There must be something else going on then. I have sound turned off for Maps on my device and I still get all of the direction notification on my Apple Watch. Have you tried making sure that navigation is showing on your watch? If you go to the Watch app on your iPhone and go to Notifications>Maps, are all the switches turned on there?

Yes, all the switches are on in the settings. Watch shows navigation, but I have to look at watch to see that. So it makes it quite useless while driving. This changed recently after some update (not the latest one — I hoped 15.2.1 would fix the issue, but it hasn’t)

It’s there but of course as with almost every reply by apple (they change a setting location during an IOS update) they provide lacklustre detailed replies.
