Photostick

My phone doesn’t seem to recognize the app I downloaded to transfer my photos. When I attempt to transfer the pictures, it tells me to “insert the photo stick “. I do just that but the reminder doesn’t go away and nothing is happening. What am I missing? Doing wrong?
