When I try to add an account for my child I get an error message - Verifaction Failed. There was a problem connecting to the server. I have tried from my iPad and iPhone and the same error appears. Logging out and back in to my apple account doesn't help. Any ideas how to fix this?

Some things you can try. Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.
Try a restart.

Try a forced restart.
