Amazon Music on iPod touch

Hello,

I recently discovered that the Amazon Music app on my iPhone allows me to stream and download music in Ultra HD and Atmos.

I had been considering getting an iPod Touch - does the Amazon Music app on the Touch also allow streaming an downloading of Ultra HD and Atmos on the Amazon Music app?

I know that the Amazon Music app belongs to Amazon and not Apple.

I was asking other Apple users in the Community because other Apple users would be using the app on iPod Touch - I did not expect an Apple employee to respond to my question nor did I expect Apple to have an answer. And I am aware of how to contact a developer but that doesn’t mean I cannot ask other Apple users the question.

Just because a device is listed in the information as compatible with the app does not mean it can use all the app features.

I'm not a fan of streaming (I have no need of it), so I'm unable to make a significant contribution to your quest. I did however, want to congratulate you for spotting that Sean is an Apple employee. Many experienced users here failed to spot the incredibly obvious until it was pointed out to them in words of one syllable. (They probably need to get out more.)

Just a thought though: one thing to find out about Amazon music; generally, "streaming" in its correct sense, needs an always-on internet connection, which you will not have on an iPod Touch without a lot of clever "mucking about" (and more money).

I believe that Apple Music can be used on an iPod Touch, even without a permanent internet connection, presumably because you can "download" Apple Music to the iPod and it checks with Apple whenever it does have an internet connection, in order to make sure the subscription to the service is still valid. Once it discovers that the subscription has ended (or it is unable to confirm such subscription), the Apple Music is removed.

So the question is, how does Amazon Music work?

I’m not sure if you remarks about spotting an Apple employee are sarcastic or not :) because I don’t see how it isn’t obvious to everyone.

it makes the community forum confusing when someone responds to a question that users here are not Apple employees and yet Apple employees post in random threads.

as to Amazon Music, the iPod Touch would be to listen to music in work where I would have an internet connection.

my primary concern is whether the Amazon Music app on an iPod Touch provides music in Ultra HD and Atmos and whether those formats can be downloaded like on an iPhone.

I don’t like Apple Music because signing up to it changes metadata in an iTunes Music Library. My library is large and mainly taken from CDs and I prefer to decide myself what artwork to use and how the artist names are listed, etc.

Sadly, I have to tell you that I wasn't being sarcastic.

I think that any response you receive anywhere online has to be weighed up; you have the tiresome burden of deciding whether a response (or the person behind it) has a valid point or not.

Anyway, back to your problem. It set me wondering and so I checked on Amazon's website, because it's there that I would expect Amazon to confirm whether a device I had would be able to benefit from this fantastic audio quality (now I'm being sarcastic).

Well, that was a disappointing experience, I have to say. I found a glitzy Amazon page that told me (among other things) that I could "hear the difference" and to "Tap the badge to toggle between the spatial and stereo versions".

It was not obvious what "badge" was being referred to, unless they meant the "Try It For Free" button, under which was information about the cost per month etc. In other words, click here to sign up, with no promise of "hearing the difference" before paying. Call me old-fashioned, but that's not for me.

I am interested in a better experience from the music I listen to. However, so far I haven't heard anything that would make me pay up front, because let's face it, the trial will involve handing over payment details, starting the trial, disliking the service but forgetting to cancel before the specified time and to end up paying for something you don't want. And I've yet to discover what the difference is between spatial audio (as mentioned by Amazon) and binaural stereo (something from years and years ago, that has never quite caught the public imagination).

I'll be waiting until I can hear this amazing thing personally, perhaps from a friend who has it.

Perhaps I'm just a grumpy old man.

Hello NeddySeagoon,

We would like to see how we can help you with Amazon Music on your iPod touch. It is up to the developer of that app, what features and capabilities it has for each device.

The "Information" section of the app description shows the iPod Touch running at least iOS 13, would be compatible with this app.

If you have additional questions, you will want to reach out to the developer directly with the steps in this link: How to contact an app developer

Cheers!
