Proper and safe way to connect MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt Dock and Pro Display XDR
Hello,
I'm expecting my new 14" MacBook Pro today and I plan to use it at home with my Pro Display XDR. I would also like to purchase a Thunderbolt 4 dock to provide easy access to ports. My understanding is that plugging in the cable from the Pro Display XDR provides power to the MacBook Pro. The Thunderbolt Dock I'm considering (an OWC Thunderbolt Hub) also provides power. I've read articles where plugging in multiple power sources to the laptop can cause problems. What is the proper way to connect these devices? Should I plug both the Pro Display and dock into separate thunderbolt ports on the laptop? Should I plug the dock into the display and only plug the display into the laptop? I just want to ensure I'm doing everything safely and giving the best possible transfer speeds to my external drive(s). Thank you.
