Apple Mail makes attached imagefiles unreadable

Apple mail version 10.3 in my MacBook Pro (from 2011, still going strong) with Mac OS 10.12.6 Sierra is not able to deliver readable imagefiles (jpeg, pdf, tiff) if attached to a mailmessage. What is the clue? On my older Imac with older Apple Mail version there is no problem at all.

Thanks for reply, it made me search for a solution more focussed. However your solution did not work: I couldnot find the option 'block images'. But I did find something else: when attaching a jpg I checked the 'options' button wherebehind I found the box 'Send Windows-friendly Attachments'. Ticking that box made a complete difference: images were sent correctly now by mail.

But it is a strange solution: ticking the windows-friendly box succesfully on a mac...
