Safari 15.0 does not have a menubar icon for easily looking at recent downloads

Why doesn't Safari 15.0 have the menubar icon for easily looking at recent downloads? Using Big Sur 11.6 with Safari 15.0 on a Retina MacBook Pro. I just now see that 11.6.1 is available. Will that cure this missing Safari download menubar icon "problem"?

Of course I can go hunting in the finder for my Auto Downloads folder, but that handy icon right there in the Safari menubar is what I always relied on and Apple software upgrades generally don't make things more difficult than prior versions.

Hi Steven Weinberg1,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you'd like to see recent downloads in Safari. Let's see how we can help. Take a look at this resource: Download items from the web using Safari on Mac, specifically the section titled "See items you downloaded". It says, "By default, Safari automatically removes an item after one day. To change when items are automatically removed, choose Safari > Preferences, click General, then click the “Remove download list items” pop-up menu and choose an option". The Show Downloads button isn't shown if the downloads list is empty, so choosing to keep the downloads for a longer period of time will give you the option to view them from the button.

Cheers!

Steven Weinberg1,

Thanks for the reply. Just to confirm, when you download an item do you not see the Show Downloads Button at all? If not, test your Mac in safe mode. This will start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening, which could help narrow down the cause of issue. This article will walk you through the steps: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Have a good one.

MVegas, thanks for trying

Did what you said. In fact my setting was "Remove manually" which is "keep forever". I switched it to "after 1 day" but no difference. There is still no "recent Downloads" icon in the safari menubar like there used to be in the "good old days" last week before upgrading.

Any other suggestions please?

Do you think any other other settings related to downloads may have an impact? Location? Open after downloads?

BTW it's totally dumb not to simply have an icon for "Recent Downloads". just sitting there permanently in the menu bar. Don't you agree?

Steve
