can I remove items from the home screen after they were installed with the new OS
After installing the new OS for my iPad, clock, calendar, photos and weather appeared on the home screen. Can I remove them? If so how?

Unwanted Widgets can be easily removed from your Home Screen. Simply long-touch any empty area of a Home Screen until the icons start to jiggle; each icon/Widget will now have a small “x” badge. Just tap the “x” on any icon/widget that you wish to delete. When you are finished, just tap any free space to end the editing process.
