USB 3.2 2x2 compatibility with M1 Max
Hi, I have a USB 3.2 2x2 SSD drive (Sandisk Extreme pro v2 4TB). Will I be able to use it at full speed (20Gbps) on the new MacBook Pro with m1 max? Thanks!

Hi, I have a USB 3.2 2x2 SSD drive (Sandisk Extreme pro v2 4TB). Will I be able to use it at full speed (20Gbps) on the new MacBook Pro with m1 max? Thanks!

Macbook M1 Max is not have usb 20 Gbps, is only 10 Gbps or 40 Gbps
I have the V1 SanDisk Extreme SSD 2TB and it performs poorly when connected directly to my 14" M1 Max MBP. System Info reports "Speed: Up to 5Gb/s" and I see lower than expected benchmark performance.
However, if I attach the same device and cable to the 14" M1 Max MBP through the second Thunderbolt 3 port on an OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock or directly via USB-C to an 2017 Intel MBP (Touch Bar), I get "Speed: Up to 10 Gb/s" in System Info and expected benchmark performance. I tried all of the three USB ports on the M1 Max MBP and multiple USB-C and Thunderbolt cables (including a Caldigit "Intel Certified" TB4 cable and an Apple TB3 cable) with the same result.
This situation with a slow connection also occurs with a second external USB device: Innateck USB 3 RAID enclosure connected directly to the M1 Max and works as expected via the OWC Dock.
Also, I have a more recent Sabrent USB-C M.2 NVMe (RealTek chipset) with a Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD works as expected (connects at "Up to 10 Gb/s" and benchmarks at ~950Mb/s).

Many thanks, but the SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD that you used does not support USB 3.2 gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) = 2,000 MB/s, but USB 3.1 Gen 2 (sequential read up to 1050 MB/s) instead.
It would be great if you could test with a USB 3.2 gen 2x2 external SSD, like the Kingston XS2000 Portable SSD, which supports up tp 2,000 MB/s.
No, it can only reach up to 10 Gbps
I also got the same results with the Extreme Pro feat. 2x2 only performing to 10GB/s speeds, not 20GB/s.
Are there any SSDs out there prebuilt like this which perform to the full speed of the ports?
I did, only 938 MB/s
Could someone with a Mac with M1 Pro or M1 Max chips test an external SSD with USB 3.2 gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) = 2,000 MB/s and let us know the speed using applications like Aja System Test Lite (free at App Store)? That is the only way to be sure. Thanks.
Thanks for your kind support and sorry about that. It was a shocking misunderstanding. It seems that there are TWO different disk models with the SAME name. One has a maximum speed of 1,000 MB/s and the other has 2,000 MB/s.
It is explained in this article:

It is really bad for SanDisk to have such two different products with the same name which may lead to misunderstanding like the one on this thread.
I understand that you have the version 2 model, with maximum 2,000 MB/s.
And here is the other:

they're called V1 and V2 and other than design and read/write speed are the same product.
like canon redesigns cameras with newer specs and design and calls it MKII, MKIII
etc
Many thanks! Was it with Aja System Test Lit? Which SSD and Mac did you use?
You said 938 MB/s. Which speed did you get for read and which for write? Thanks.
It's funny how people ask for help and when they get it they refuse to believe they already got it. Sure it's a usb disk 3.2 gen 2x2
They are not the same name at all. I can see that even without my reading glasses.
